Hockey: We are qualifying for the Olympics - Emmanuel Ahadjie

Ghana Ghana

Head Coach of Ghana’s National Female Hockey Coach has hinted on a possible qualification to next year’s summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The legendary trainer who has been with the team for some time now has expressed confidence in his side ahead of the Olympic qualifiers in South Africa.

With over a month in camp now, the team looks certain and poised to conquer the continent for the first time. Speaking to isports360 ahead of the competition, Coach Emmanuel Ahadjie looked confident and certain his side will defy all odds and grab the sole qualification slot. “We have been training for sometime now and I can say the ladies are in good shape ahead of the tournament. These are players I have worked with for several years hence the coordination and understanding is perfect. With the exception of three players, these are the same faces we presented at the Commonwealth games in Australia last year, so we won’t have a problem playing as a team”, he said.

“The players are responding well with respect to the training tactics. They are improving with their movement, passing, leading with our only problem now being goal scoring… and we are working very hard on that. With the inclusion of new faces, another problem is getting them adapt to our style which we are working on “, he added.

“We are very much aware of the teams coming and how prepared they are…every country will want to qualify for the Olympics next year. We will take it match after match and clinch the ultimate hopefully at the end of the tourney. We are qualifying for the Olympics at the end of the day; for that I can assure Ghanaians”, he concluded.

The tournament takes place in Stellenbosch, South Africa from 12th – 18th August, 2019. Ghana (ladies) are in Pool B with Namibia, Zimbabwe and Uganda. The ladies will start their campaign against Zimbabwe on 12th August, 2019 .
