Ghana Navy win Handball Knock-Out

Accra, Dec. 24, GNA=97Ghana Navy defeated Ghana National Fire Service 24-23 in the finals, to win this year's de Youngsters Handball Knock-Out Championship played at the Prisons Sports Complex in Accra on Saturday.

The game which was fiercely fought, saw Navy, who led 14-11 at half time, using their rich experience to dethrone the defending champions who failed to utilize a number of penalties awarded them. On their way the finals, Navy edged out Ghana Prisons 24-19 ,while Fire Service defeated Ghana Army 25-18.
Other teams that took part in the competition were Future Stars, Ghana Airforce, Hostac and Asomdwoe Stars.
Superintendent Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Handball Association, praised de Youngsters International School for sponsoring the competition for the 11th time. He said, this year had been very good for the game of Handball He was also happy that handball was introduced in this year's Basic Schools Sports Festival.
Supt. Twumasi-Ankrah announced that the 2007 Handball League would kick-start in March, 2007.
Mr A.K. de Youngster, Proprietor of de Youngsters International School, asked the participants to be disciplined and law-abiding, so that they can win laurels for themselves and the nation as a whole. He said next year, the most disciplined team and the Best disciplined coach would receive awards.
