Mensah, Peace Akwei live the Infinity Achimota Masters’ dream

Infinity Tyres has successfully staged the 2012 Infinity Achimota Masters for a notable fourth straight success of the annual event.

When it mattered most, Richard K. Mensah and Peace Akwei, lived the golfer’s dream as they pieced together two brilliant rounds of golf each to vault into top spots in the Men and Ladies Divisions respectively.

Apart from the stunning trophies, the two enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Dubai for the Infinity Dubai tourney later in October.

Richard, a single handicapper, shot a net score of 70 on day one and followed it with a net score of 72 to complete a total 142 shots.

Richard was one shot behind first round leader, Asiedu Offei and chose to play with a game plan that ensured that, his shot games were spot on.

“I built the two-day game on my approach shots.” Richard emphasized. Recognizing the course setup at Achimota, he said, “I avoided the rough by not driving long. I tried to set my first shots on the fairway, when I had achieved this,” he continued “I then hit about 100 yards to the green with one-wood or seven iron and attack the greens with the pitching wedge.”

A chip in for birdie on hole nine remained the lone birdie on his first round after a double bogey anxiety on hole one. He finished the day with 3 bogeys and remarkable 14 pars.

Richard was 1-over to hole no. 4 on his second round, a birdie at hole 4 produced level par en route to hole five. With medley of pars and bogeys following hole 4, he sunk additional birdies at holes 9 and 14 to complete an exciting round.

Asiedu Ofei endured a crushing loss for second place on a total net score of 143 off handicap 15. Yao Dogbe, reigning champion of the Asantehene Gold Cup, trailed third on a total net score of 144 off 4.

In the Ladies Division, Peace Akwei begun her round with a beautiful drive at hole one, which was followed with an approach shot that missed the pin by an inch for a par. With reasonably long drives, good pitching and bunker shots, she returned a net score of 145 off handicap 23 for first place finish.

Victoria Adjei secured 145 net score for second place off handicap 15 to beat into third place Esther Amedzro on a net score of 146 off 17.

To demonstrate what caring brand it exudes, Infinity presented prizes to the best gross golfers. Vincent Cofie and Tema based Grace Afriyie won the Men and Ladies respectively in the category.

Achimotan Jessica Tei won the longest drive and closet to pin prizes in the Ladies Division, whiles Chris Apau-Oppong won the longest drive in the Men Division with Oddoye Sawyer for closet to pin prize.

As it happened last year with the visit by one of golf’s greatest, Richard George Green, Infinity sprung another pleasant surprise by bringing to the event Virginia Espejo, Head, Women’s Golf Coach, Univ. of Southern Missisipi and a pro on the PGA tour to play among the Ghanaian golfers.

Chairman of Infinity, Surrender S. Kandhari reiterated the company’s commitment to support golf in Ghana and asked golfers to expect another exciting golf event next year with strings of surprises.

Club captain, Rene Gameli-Kwame praised the continued support of Infinity for the past four years and expressed the hope that, the years ahead can only be the best.
