The Abandoned Obuasi Municipal Library……

The Obuasi Municipality boasts of Education prowess especially in the Basic Education Certificate Examination and this is all about some serious measures laid down from the beginning that is being adhered to strictly by masters and students in the Municipality.
Students from the Municipality who attend Tertiary or Second Cycle outside the Municipality always come out among the best in their various fields of study, making the Municipality one of the very best in the Ashanti Region in terms of Education.
There’s an old saying that, “he who doesn’t read rusts” Students in and around the Obuasi Municipality are missing a lot when it comes enjoying reading from a very quiet corner and exploring new books in the world. The Municipality have a Library which is located in New Nsuta a suburb of Obuasi, close to the Central Mosque and not too far from a Trotro and Taxi Rank which makes reading very uncomfortable. The Library is stocked with old and worn out books, tables and chairs in the Library are old and wobbling.
This Old Library has really helped many, including past and Present Members of Parliament and Municipal Chief Executives but a little is being done to give the Library a face lift and a relocation.
The former Member of Parliament for Obuasi, Mr. Edward Ennin and now the Member of Parliament for Obuasi East started and completed a new Library with his share of the MPs Common fund about 4 years ago. The New Library is located close to the Obuasi Municipal Assembly and adjacent the Government Hospital, the location of the Library is very serene and a right site for a Library but the Library is being abandoned and taken over by bushes.
Citizens of Obuasi and its environs are sitting quiet and unconcerned as our tax payers money goes waste and unaccounted for, making the new Modern Library a white elephant!!
After the MP,Mr.Edward Ennin Finished the library with his share of the MPs common fund, he counted on the then MCE, now a Deputy Minister for Women, Gender and social Protection,Mr.John Alexander Kobina Ackon to also stock the Library with books and other modern equipment that will keep the library alive
Some of us are much concerned with what how the Library is going to be stocked with quality books and internet connection so as to pave way for its use by the public not the Political twist around it.Now the Current MP for Obuasi West, Mr.Kwaku Kwarteng and the Current MCE, Mr. Richard Boadi should as a matter of urgency before next year make sure the Library is being opened to the General public.
I know for sure the parties are all waiting to credits for the Library, but some of us are not much concerned with that, what we want is the betterment of the municipality and its citizens, especially when it matters with Education.
I humbly call on the Ghana Library Authority, Ghana Education Service, Members of Parliament for both Obuasi East and West and the various Civil Society groups in the Municipality to do all what they can to make the Library lively and protect the tax payers’ money. Students and adults all benefit from Libraries, So citizens of OBUASI NEED OUR A LIBRARY!!!
