Don't Patronize NPP, Nana Ato Dadzie

By Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., Ph.D.

The call by the spokesman of the National Democratic Congress' Legal Team, Nana Ato Dadzie, for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) petitioners to the 2012 presidential election to be commended for taking their case to the Supreme Court, rather than the streets to cause mayhem, is very patronizing, and that is being extremely polite and charitable about it (See "Nana Ato Dadzie Congratulates Petitioners for Going to Court" MyJoyOnline.com 7/18/13).

It is very patronizing because throughout the entire petition process, the former presidential chief-of-staff for Mr. Jeremiah John Rawlings has taunted his political opponents for lacking any tangible case to grieve at the Supreme Court. He is also on record to have even dared Nana Akufo-Addo and his associates to deliver what Nana Ato Dadzie termed as their "killer punch" which, to the very end of the hearings, the NDC's former executive bull-dog insisted had not been delivered and could not be delivered because, somehow, it simply did not exist.

And so, really, is Nana Ato Dadzie presuming here to impugn the common sense and integrity of his political opponents for challenging the patent fraud that was the declaration of Mr. John Dramani Mahama as President of the Democratic Republic of Ghana, or he is simply cynically and mischievously attempting to sway the Atuguba-presided Court into delivering the clearly untenable and unjustifiable?

Indeed, throughout the petition hearings, President Mahama has not missed a heart-beat's opportunity to call both the proceedings and the credibility of the Atuguba-presided Supreme Court panel into question and abject disrepute, by insisting against sound judgment that, indeed, it was Divine Providence Himself/Herself that declared and swore him in as President of our august Republic, rather than the criminally collusive Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan.

And so maybe it is the rarefied fortitude of Nana Akufo-Addo and his associates in taking wanton verbal abuse that Nana Ato Dadzie was compensatively alluding to in his rather haughty and imperious "congratulatory" message. Still Nana Ato Dadzie is absolutely correct in observing the boldness of the leaders of the main opposition New Patriotic Party in successfully defying Mr. Mahama's rather shameful attempt to use his executive powers to stall and scuttle the Akufo-Addo presidential election challenge, by cynically insisting that his main rival's contestation of his fraudulent declaration by Dr. Afari-Gyan as Ghana's president was totally devoid of merit.

The NPP's Mr. Yaw Buaben-Asamoah had absolutely no business in responding to Nana Ato Dadzie's patronage of the NPP petitioners. For by now it ought to have become indisputably clear to the global community that no case that is absolutely devoid of merit would warrant a judicial hearing at the highest level that lasts for more than three months, with one star-witness, in the unfortunate personality of Dr. Afari-Gyan, Ghana's Electoral Commissioner, being locked up in the witness-box for 45 days, even as he hopelessly and pathetically kept perjuring and contradicting sworn testimony over and over again.

Could it be the result of such stunningly pathetic performance, on the part of Dr. Afari-Gyan, which has now comically forced President John Dramani Mahama and his lackeys to insist, against common sense and historical reality, that it was, indeed, God Himself/Herself that declared and swore in the Bole-Bamboi political rascal as winner of Election 2012 and President of the Democratic Republic of Ghana?

Go figure!
