Memo to Speaker of Parliament

MEMO
TO: SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT

FROM: V. D. KING (MR), CONCERNED GHANAIAN, P. O. BOX HP
590, HO

SUBJECT: PETITION, SPECIAL ESB PACKAGE TO PROTECT AGE 55
AND ABOVE.

DATE: MAY 13, 2013
THRO’
CEO,
NATIONAL PENSIONS REGULATORY AUTHORITY – ACCRA

Convinced
beyond imagination I curiously but humbly petition you to use your good offices
to institute a special END OF SERVICE BENEFIT (ESB) package for the age 55
years and above category who are not covered by the introduction of the new 3
TIER PENSION SCHEME which seeks to augment pensions at the end of public
service.
This
is on account of the fact that the ESB is still prevalent and available to a privileged
few in society who offer service to the nation.
I
observe with utter discontent the condition under which our forebears had lived
and did work in the CIVIL and PUBLIC SERVICES, but who have not been offered
the commensurate remunerations, let alone, appreciable exit gratuities.
They
were therefore handed the keys to their graves so to speak, rather than retire
to enjoy any meaningful life after offering meritorious service to mother
Ghana.
You
will also agree that much as several legislations and policies have been put
together to regulate the conduct of society, this underprivileged category are
yet to see the light of day.
I
will therefore humbly suggest that a flat FIFTY THOUSAND GHANA CEDIS
(GH¢50,000), exit guard is built for them even as their SSNIT PENSION peanut is
processed for them.
It
is also my view that you take on board the Minority Leader’s position that
talks be initiated to carry along the other public servants as far as end of
service benefit goes than to allow them to continue wallowing in poverty.
In
as much as it is gratifying to appreciate policies of the current government to
better the conditions of service in the public service to unprecedented
dimensions, I hope and pray that you will have compassion to intervene to
liberate this unfortunate category from the excruciating poverty and near
starvation.
God
bless you and long live the BETTER GHANA AGENDA.
By
copy of this petition the MINISTER FOR GENDER AND SOCIAL PROTECTION, CEO,
NATIONAL PENSIONS REGULATORY AUTHORITY-ACCRA, Commissioner for CHRAJ as well as
Secretary General of GTUC, are severally but respectfully tasked, to push to
give it effect, should they reason with me.
Please,
acknowledge receipt.
SIGN.
