Assembly offers reward for arrest of former revenue officer

Ejura (Ash), Oct. 14, GNA - The Ejura-Sekyedumase District Assembly is offering a five million-cedi reward to anyone who would offer information leading to the arrest of a former revenue collector of the assembly who is alleged to have duped the assembly to the tune of 59 million cedis. The retired revenue collector, whose name was given only as Adiyia, is said to be on the run.

Adiyia, aged 60 who hails from Nsuta near Asante-Mampong, is said to be fair, short, slim and dyes his hair, is believed to be hiding at Nsuta or may be travelling incognito. The fraud, uncovered by an audit report, was presented to the assembly at its meeting at Ejura last Thursday.

Madam Elizabeth Owusu, the District Chief Executive who appeared badly shaken by the discovery, gave a stern warning to the assembly's revenue collectors to either mend their ways or be fired. The assembly also resolved to re-introduce some progressive traditional customs such as puberty rites (bragro) in the various communities as a means of helping to stem the spread of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and teenage pregnancies.
