MTN Hit-Maker 3 launches today

Leading telecommunications company MTN and Farmhouse Productions would this evening officially launch the 2014 edition of Ghana’s biggest music reality show, the ‘MTN Hit-Maker’.

The 2014 edition would be season three of MTN Hit-Maker and tonight’s event would be used to launch the debut album of the season two winner, Koo Ntakra.

Koo, after winning the season three, has released several impressive single hits and performed on some of the country’s biggest music events.

The MTN Hit-Maker concept is to search for an underground musician with the best music talent and support the person with a cash amount to record and promote a complete album.

The winners for the first and second seasons, Naterial and Koo Ntakra were given a cash amount of GH¢100,000 each. The first runner-up for the first and second seasons also had a cash amount of GH¢50,000 each.

It is not yet clear whether MTN would maintain the quantum of the cash amount for the winner of season three or not.

Normally, after the launch, armature musicians all over the country are encouraged to submit at least a recorded song. The song must be an original composition belonging to the armature artiste.

The thousands of submitted works are then shortlisted and after several stages of the competition, the final 12 are selected.

The final 12 are then housed and made to compete on a weekly basis with songs they composed. MTN foots the cost of producing and recording of all the songs the final 12 would use during the competition.

The public gets to watch the competition on several television stations across the country and vote through text messages for their favourite contestant.

The contestant with the least number of votes gets evicted each week until the final four are selected for the grand finale.



Bessa Simons, seasoned musician and vice president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Zapp Mallet, renowned sound engineer and instrumentalist and ace singer Offei Kudjoe were judges for the first two seasons and are most likely to be maintained for the season three.
