Rastas perform in honour of slain Lucky

Shasha MarleyThe world is still mourning the death of two reggae legends, Lucky Dube and Culture, known in real life as Joseph Hill.

On Monday night, Ghana’s Rastafarian celebrities Shasha Marley, Daddy Bosco and Blackrasta among others would be joining colleagues from various African countries to celebrate their two fallen comrades.

This will be at a programme dubbed “Reggae Nite” to celebrate the legends, who had contributed immensely to world reggae music. Non-Rastafarians are also welcome to be part of the historic event, which comes off at the Roxy Cinema, Adabraka in Accra.

Other Ghanaian Rastafarians expected to grace the occasion are Black Santino of Vibe FM, Wofa K, Culture B, Ras and Caleb Appiah. Attendance by Black Prophet and Batman Samini has not been confirmed but it is believed they would be there since they are great admirers of both Lucky Dube and Culture.

Some of these reggae stars are expected to mount the stage during the night to give some impressive renditions in memory of their late colleagues.

Besides, there would be the premiering of the life story of the two as well as their music videos, according to Daily Guide’s Beatwaves.

Other activities for the night include prayers for the departed souls, to coincide with the entry into the New Year.

Culture died at the age of 57 in August 2006, after suffering a liver failure while on tour in Europe, while Lucky Dube was shot dead in front of his two children in a car-jacking attempt in Johannesburg, South Africa. The two reggae stars made great contributions to the development of reggae music across the globe and would forever be remembered.
