GAMADA launches Kpanlogo Musical Fiesta

Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - The Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) on Thursday launched the Kpanlogo Musical Fiesta to revive the country's music and dance industry. The Kpanlogo Musical Fiesta forms part of the programmes outlined to showcase the rich Ghanaian culture to delegates and tourists to this year's World Tourism Day celebrations in Ghana in September. This was contained in an address read by Mr Victor Hagan, a Director at the Ministry of Tourism, on behalf of the Minister of Tourism, Mrs Juliana Azumah-Mensah, at the launch of the initiative in Accra.

Mrs Azumah-Mensah said diluting or making Ghana's culture to have western semblance amounted to lack of appreciation for local culture and must be discouraged and called for the preservation of the true Ghanaian culture to promote domestic tourism.

She said the Ministry had planned to make music and dance a core part of products to be revitalized to attract patronage and improve on the country's tourism potential. The Minister said the Ministry was also shifting from relying on one product area by adding other activities and products to develop the tourism industry.

She called for preservation, protection as well as adoption of moral values and standards that made Ghanaians unique and not to look down upon them. Nii Teiko Tagoe, Programmes Director of GAMADA, said music and dance performances had been on the decline in the country and hoped that through the initiative, the industry would be revived.
