Nduom flats Ashanti Region

Nduom Interacts with delegates …declares unity with other aspirants

Delegates of the Conventions People’s Party (CPP) in the Ashanti Region have exorcised themselves from their slumber, as the story is told to be the first region to have completed their constituency elections. This feat epitomizes their readiness to dethrone the incumbent New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) strength in the region.

Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, a presidential candidate for the party who undoubtedly leads on all opinion polls conducted in the country, ignited the hope of party members in the region when he stormed the Ashanti Region as part of his campaign tour.

The delegates could not control their exhilaration and the enthusiasm when they listened to the former Minister of Public Sector Reform and Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Eguafo-Edina-Abream (KEEA) constituency. Dr. Nduom told delegates that CPP welcomes with unfasten arms, new members including those returning home to the party and the youth. He stressed the need to recruit women as “… every successful and interesting organization has many women members. But the CPP needs women not only as members but in executive positions as well.”

The former minister said that he has learnt a lot during his tenure as Minister in government and as a result is acquainted with what needs urgent attention and what to do to bring enormous benefit to Ghanaians. To him, experience counts a lot and with the CPP philosophy and ideology to guide him, he could do a tremendous job for the country when voted into office as President. He appealed those who will be attending the congress as delegates to consider the experienced and the familiarity factor and his results-oriented approach and vote for him massively to become the CPP’s flag bearer for the 2008 elections.

He advised members to spread the word about CPP principles including using improvement in the well being of the people as a measure of success, Dr. Nduom said CPP stands for sharing the nation’s resources evenly across the country and is the one party that is not tied to any region, ethnic group or tribe as it is truly a national, broad based party.

He said the party is only interested in improving the lot of the poor, disadvantaged and ordinary workers.

The CPP presidential aspirants tasked members to look for viable, popular parliamentary candidates as it will be tough for a presidential candidate to win without a lot of local support. To him the days of parliamentary candidates of the CPP having to go it alone as “orphans” are over.

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom also told the members that he considers Prof. Akosa, Dr. Osafo, Mr. Akwetey and Mr. Aggudey to be his comrades and will not engage in negative campaigning or name- calling of any type with them. To him, they all need to work together to win for the CPP after the Congress. He said he would be contented to work with the other contestants in a CPP administration. Mr. Kwabena Anim the Regional Secretary commended the members for attending the meeting and said that similar meetings had been facilitated by the Secretariat for other contestants.

He asked them to cautiously take note of what the candidates had to say and make a prudent decision at Congress. He was grateful that so many new members had joined the Party and assured them that the elders will give them the necessary support so that the organization can spread and enable more people to join the CPP.

Komba Serchin, a candidate for the General Secretary position of the Party was given the opportunity to address the meeting. He described the qualities he possesses that the delegates should consider.

Mr. Ladi Nylander, a candidate seeking to become the Chairman of the CPP was introduced to the meeting by Mr. Mike Eghan. He described Mr. Nylander as an experienced businessman with management and organization experience the CPP will benefit from. He said that as the son of a Minister in Kwame Nkrumah’s administration, Ladi Nylander was not a stranger to the Party. He called on the people to give him massive support at Congress.

Mr. Etroo asked members to seriously recruit new members as political parties need strength in numbers to win.
