Adansi North and Obuasi Municipal Assemblies inaugurated

Fomena-Ashanti, Oct. 31, GNA - Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment on Monday inaugurated the 54-member Adansi North District Assembly at Fomena with a call on assembly members to avoid confrontation with their Municipal and District Chief Executives.

He reminded them of the non-partisan nature of the assemblies and urged them to cooperate with their DCEs to bring development to the people, adding 93Your contributions and ideas to the DCEs would be nurtured into a workable development plan for the districts.=94 Alhaji Boniface said 93If you are in the assembly only to be vocal and oppose everything, then I am afraid you will end up nowhere.=94 He said the National Youth Employment Programme was to create jobs for the youth.

Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, Adansi North District Chief Executive, said the assembly had lived up to its expectation as the agent of development since its establishment in 2004.

He said most deplorable feeder roads in the area had been reshaped and others including Tewobabi-Yaw Dankwa and Atatam Junction to Atatam feeder roads were under construction.

Mr Ameyaw said the Akrokerri-Kyeaboso road had been awarded on contract for surfacing at a cost of over three billion cedis. At Obuasi, the 45-member Obuasi Municipal Assembly was inaugurated by Dr Charles Bempong Yeboah, Deputy Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment.

He advised DCEs to comport themselves and administer their districts to justify the confidence in them.

Dr Yeboah urged them to be diligent, accountable and responsive to their individual assemblies and the populace. Mr Joseph Kwadwo Boampong, Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, said the assembly had made significant impact on local governance, winning the best district award in the operation of sub-district structures in the country in 2002.

He announced that in 2004 the municipality was adjudged the neatest municipality in the country.

=93When we talk of Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) results, we are the best in Ghana. We placed fifth in 2003, we came first in 2004 and maintained the first position in 2005,=94 Mr Boampong added.

Nana Adu Ampoti Dwaah II, Krontihene of Bodwesango who represented the acting President of Adansi Traditional Council, Nana Assiama Guahyia Ababio, New Edubiasehene asked the assembly members to work towards the development of the municipality.
