Mawuli School Fund to fashion out development plan

Ho, June 19, GNA - The Mawuli School Fund is collaborating with other stakeholders to fashion out a development plan to address the institution's crumbling infrastructure facilities. Mr Mawuli Tse, Local Director of the Fund, gave the hint in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) when he presented 25,000 books valued at two billion cedis on behalf of the Fund for distribution among 16 Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) in the Volta Region at Mawuli School on Friday.

Mr Tse expressed concern that nothing has changed for the better in terms of the school's infrastructure in the past 30 years. He said the Fund, which was established as a non-profit tax-exempt organisation in the US in 1998 and registered in Ghana this year, aimed at joining hands with all friends of the school towards its development. Briefing newsmen on conditions in the School, the Headmaster, Mr David Afudago, said its poor infrastructure was affecting effective teaching, learning and discipline.

He said for example, the dining hall which also served as the Assembly hall, was built for a student population of 500, but was currently being used by nearly 2,000 students, majority of whom had to remain outside the hall during school functions.

Mr Afudago appealed to the GETFUND to expedite work on a new block of 18 classrooms it currently constructing for the students, adding that some of the students now used the school's canteen as classrooms. "Mawuli School's infrastructure facilities require a major overhaul and expansion commensurate with increasing demands for admissions into the school and the challenges of the new educational system," he stressed.
