Assemblies to create 500 jobs

Gomoa Ekwamkrom, April 19, GNA - Each Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly has been task to create 500 jobs to solve the unemployment problem.

To facilitate the programme the government has made budgetary allocation to the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment to support the Assemblies.

Professor Dominic Fobih, Minister of Lands, Forestry and Mines, announced this at the Gomoa District Peoples Assembly at Ekwamkrom. He said District Youth Coordinators had been appointed speed up the programme.

Mr Isaac Edumadze, Central Regional Minister, advised communities to channel their requests and grievances through appropriate quarters for redress instead of the media.

If your school building is in bad state and you cause it to be shown on the television without contacting the right sources for its repair or reconstruction, the problem will not be solved, he stated. Ms Joyce Aidoo, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the introduction of the capitation grant had increased school enrolment in the district by 8,000.

The DCE enumerated a number of projects and government interventions to improve the living conditions of the people including three tractors with accessories to assist farmers for a token fee and seed maize and inputs to farmers on credit.

Obrifo Ahunaku Ahor Ankobea II, Omanhene of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, appealed to the government to expedite action on the creation of another district in the area.

The Omanhene also appealed to the government for the provision of offices for the decentralised departments in the district. He expressed concern about the situation where people have to travel to either Agona Swedru or Winneba whenever there was a problem with utility services for redress.

Questions asked were mainly on unfulfilled electioneering campaign promises, bad roads, poor conditions of schools and the need for electricity.
