United States Provides Funds For The Development Of Nkenkansu Wood Village

Kumasi, Sept 1, - The United States is to provide 480,358 dollars for the development of the Nkenkansu wood village at Sokoban, a suburb of Kumasi. This was announced by Mr Collins Dauda, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Lands and Forestry during a meeting with members of the small-scale carpenters association, wood sellers as well as firewood sellers at Anloga in Kumasi at the weekend. The meeting organized by the Ghana Timber Millers' Organization (GTMO) was to offer the committee the opportunity to have first hand information about the problems facing the organisation and measures to help develop the wood industry. Mr Dauda who is also MP for Asunafo North, said the committee will do all it can to ensure the development of the wood village and called for maximum support and cooperation. The Reverend Samuel Kwabena Fugah, national president of the Small-Scale Carpenters' Association (SSCA) appealed to the government to acquire a land and develop it for the members.
