The official Ghana @ 59 Celebrations in Chicago is at the Ukrainian Cultural Center!

The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan Chicago and its affiliates are organizing Ghana's 59th Independence Anniversary celebration dinner dance on Saturday March 5, 2016 at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, 2247 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago Illinois. The event starts from 7:30pm to 1:30am.

Ms. Emma Asante, Vice President of NBC (Channel 5 TV) Special Projects and Community Relations is scheduled to be the keynote speaker of the event. Other dignitaries in the Chicagoland are scheduled to make appearance at the celebrations.

The Red Carpet event will also feature both Ghanaian and American cuisine; and Open Bar! DJ music will be provided by top Deejays' in the Chicagoland. It will be a night to remember as Ghanaian cultural dancing and a special kpalogo performances are set to wow attendees!





Ghana's independence on March 6, 1957 was a historic moment since it was the momentous impact of Africa's awakening upon the modern world. Ghana's independence led to the flowing tide of African nationalism that swept everything before it and constituted a challenge to the colonial powers to make a just restitution for the years of injustice against the African continent. 17 colonies gained independence shortly after Ghana's independence.

In the words of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, leader of the Ghanaian movement that gained independence from the British, for years and years, Africa had been the foot-stool of colonialism and imperialism, exploitation and degradation. From the north to the south, from the east to the west, her sons languished in chains of slavery and humiliation, and Africa's exploiters and self-appointed controllers of her destiny strode across the land with incredible inhumanity without mercy, without shame and without honor. Dr. Nkrumah declared those days gone and gone forever. After that declaration, the march of other African countries to independence could not be stopped. The civil rights struggle then in the United States was galvanized as a result of Ghana's independence.

Ghanaians, friends of Ghana and Africans all over the globe therefore celebrate Ghana's independence with pride and nostalgia. It is in this spirit that the Ghana National Council is asking you and your family and friends to join the Ghanaian community in Chicago as they celebrate the 59th year of this historic moment in African and World History.

As a precursor to the main celebrations at the Ukrainian cultural center, Mr. Osei Agyeman Badu has scheduled an Art show on Friday, March 4 2016 at 345 N Kedzie Ave, Chicago, Illinois 60612 from 7 p.m to 10 p.m. The first 20 attendees will be given a miniature Ghana flag for free.
