Ghana Embassy in Russia opens week long art exhibition
A week long extraordinary art exhibition opened in Russia
The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana has opened a week long extraordinary art exhibition, which represented a unique collection of paintings and artworks by six famous Ghanaians, in Moscow.
It was organised by the Embassy in conjunction with United Russia party, Eastern Administrative District Council and the House of Africa.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy of the state Duma of the Russian Federation, Anton Zharkov, the Deputy of the Moscow City Duma, Alexander Smetana, the Deputy Prefect of the Eastern Administrative District Council, Irina Kuznetsova, a few African Ambassadors, the media and general public.
His Excellency, Dr. Kodzo K. Alabo, Ghana's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation & Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), opening the exhibition said, “the exhibition offers an opportunity to share a gleam of Ghanaian culture through the work of art to the people of the Russian Federation.”
He said that, “Ghana abounds in creative talents involving many disciplines. Thus, the artists, whose works are on display, only seek to make a statement of the presence of their paintings and artworks by showcasing an aspect of Ghana’s rich and dynamic art culture.”
In a short speech, the President of the House of Africa, Serge Phokas Odunlami, described the exhibition “as a traditional cultural enlightenment” for the general public.
After opening the exhibition, Andrey Metelsky and Anton Zharkov, signed a cooperation agreement with the House of Africa marking the beginning of a great cultural friendship.
The tripartite agreement on cooperation between the House of Africa, the Moscow City Duma and the office of the United Russia party will become the basis for further work, – explained Anton Zharkov.
The exhibition, a collective paintings and artworks by six renowned Ghanaian contemporary artists namely Kofi Agorsor, Wiz Kudowor, Larry Otoo, Nii T. Mills, Maxwell Boadi and Nyornuwofia Agorsor, runs until 24 September, 2015.
