Ghanaian community in Greater Cincinnati supports June 3 victims

The Ghanaian community in Greater Cincinnati, United States of America (USA) has donated an amount of Thirteen Thousand Ghanaian Cedis (13,000.00) to the victims of the June 3, 2015 flood and disaster victims.

The donation, which was presented to the Christian Council of Ghana on August 11, 2015 to be administered to the victims forms part of the various efforts by Ghanaians in Greater Cincinnati to support those who were affected in the disaster.

Presenting the cash to the Council, Bishop Enoch Osei-Poku, a leading member of the community said Ghanaians in Cincinnati were saddened and touched upon hearing the news of the disaster that struck the nation on June 3, 2015.

He said, members of the community subsequently held a night vigil in remembrance of the departed, adding that, monies were raised at the end of the vigil by the Ghanaians to support fellow brothers and sisters who were affected by the disaster.

“After raising the funds among ourselves, we decided to look for a credible organization in Ghana to channel the money through to the victims. After a careful search and discussions with the General Secretary, we realized that the CCG is one of the credible organizations to work with. We are also happy to learn that the CCG has already developed a database of most of the victims, and it is already garnering support for them,” he revealed.

The General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong who received the donation on-behalf of the CCG expressed his appreciation to the Ghanaian community for remembering their fellow brothers and sisters in these difficult times.

He said the Council is already mobilising resources from its members to support some of the victims within her member churches. He added that, the donation by the Ghanaian community will further compliment the efforts by the Council, government and other benevolent organizations in providing the needed support to the victims.

Rev Opuni-Frimpong encouraged members of the Ghanaian community to sustain their support to Ghanaians and take part in efforts to address the many socio-economic challenges facing the country.

He further urged them to consistently pray for the nation, especially in these challenging times.
