IGP Commends “Five Pounds No Balance”

Nana Stephen Owusu-Nsiah, Inspector General of Police has commended the Ghana High Commission in London for initiating the “Five Pounds No Balance” Appeal Fund in support of the Ghana Police Service.

He said the move had been well received by men of the service who felt delighted that their compatriots abroad were determined to contribute their quota towards enhancing the image of the Police as a reliable partner in development and law enforcement.

Nana Owusu-Nsiah commended Ghanaians in the UK for responding positively to the Fund and promised that the gadgets and tools which would be purchased from the fund would be utilised in the interest of the country.

Nana Owusu-Nsiah made the remarks during a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, while on a two-day official visit to London where he discussed with some Police Institutions, issues relating to the development of the Ghana Police Service.

Present at the meeting were the Chief of Staff at the Police Headquarters, Mr. James Oppong Boanuh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Detective Sergeant Keith Ashong, of the Metropolis Police, London and Mr. Peter Wiredu, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Minister/Counsellor (Passports & Immigration).

He said as a result of the Government’s positive response to the needs of the Police, there had been a remarkable change in the work output of personnel within the force.

The IGP called for continued public support for the service in the discharge of their duties and expressed their determination to justify the prevailing confidence and trust of the people of Ghana.

Responding, Mr. Osei explained that the “Five Pounds No Balance” Appeal Fund formed the first phase of yearly projects to be undertaken by the Ghanaian Community in support of national development.

He said the fund’s committee, made up of representatives of Ghanaian community associations and groups were working around the clock to solicit contributions from Ghanaians and friends of Ghana.

Mr. Osei told the IGP that the response to the appeal fund had been encouraging and emphasised that all monies accruing to the fund would be used to procure the materials for presentation to the Service.

High Commissioner Osei took the opportunity to express the Mission’s appreciation to the Ghanaian community associations and groups in the UK for contributing ?13,700.00 towards the Accra Sports Stadium Disaster Fund, the highest donation from the Ghana community associations world-wide. He hoped that the Five Pounds No Balance Appeal would generate a similar level of interest and support
