Rejoinder: Concerned Ghanaians demonstrate against Mahama in New York

The story carried on October 2nd, 2012 in your widely read Ghanaweb titled, “Concerned Ghanaians demonstrated against John Mahama in New York” did not present the real picture of the scenario. In that, the concerned Ghanaians the story claims demonstrated were rather about a dozen well known members of the NPP and their Nassara Club wing in New York City.

These few NPP members who came to demonstrate in front of the President's hotel, were shocked to see a mammoth number of Ghanaians they claimed demonstrated against the President, by-passing them on their way to see and hear the charming and charismatic President Mahama at a town hall meeting he held with them at the hotel in Manhattan. Most of people from the audience were not card-bearing members of the NDC, they were just ordinary Ghanaians, and they were fascinated by the President’s powerful oratory and excellent expertise in analyzing and explaining the state of the various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

NPP-USA’s so-called demonstration was pre-planned and stage-managed by their party gurus in Ghana with the view to embarrass the President of Ghana with their target audience being Presidents of other countries and other International leaders attending the UN annual event in New York City. Their diabolic and unpatriotic conduct however did not have any significant impact. The picture they posted on Ghanaweb with about a dozen of their demonstrators creates impression that, there were lot of other Ghanaians in the background, but this is their own figment of imagination to manipulate the minds of people in Ghana and of your readers on the web. The bottom line is that, whoever visits New York City and comes to “Times Square” knows that, the avenue is always busy with beehive of activities by huge crowd of tourists from all walks of life. These people did not even notice the strange spectacle of a few NPP members shouting outrageously at the top of their voices. Indeed they were a rather pathetic, confusing and ridiculous sight. Their placards carried the same rude and rancorous messages, replete with character assassination, acrimony and unfounded allegations that the parent party uses in their propaganda in Ghana against the NDC led government. But interestingly, in spite of their effort to make his Excellency President Mahama unpopular in their desperate goose chase for power, his popularity continues to soar exponentially, as he leads in the polls. Fact is that take it or leave, the sudden and unexpected emergence of Mr. Mahama on the presidential platform has completely transformed the political campaign dynamics, because many Ghanaians attest to his high sense of humility, magnanimity, sagacity, charisma, eloquence and youthful exuberance, among other qualities-making him more marketable and outstanding among all other candidates.

And these qualities are undoubtedly resonating and arresting the attention of many NPP supporters who have expressed their willingness to cast their vote for him and the NDC in general come December 7th, 2012. Additionally, the NPP has realized that because of the tremendous success chalked by the NDC government towards the successful implementation of the Better Ghana Agenda, they have no practical and pragmatic message to the electorates and hence have resorted to vilification, insinuation and castigation. Their conduct as exemplified in the so-called Concerned Ghanaians Demonstration are mere blows below the belt, evidence of their desperation and realization of impending disaster at the polls.

They are fighting a losing battle and chasing a mirage. But we are optimistic that, with the unflinching support that the President is gaining nationwide to carry on with the legacy of the late President Mills, God willing, we will retain our incumbency, by winning the elections massively, come December 7th, 2012 to move this nation forward.
