High Commissioner Unhappy with Youth Violence

Prof. Kwaku Danso-Boafo, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, last week-end made a passionate appeal to Ghanaian parents, resident in the United Kingdom, to take advantage of the upcoming Youth Festival to be held here in London under the auspices of the High Commission, to seek knowledge in how to handle the Youth to avoid tragedies that result in the loss of their children.

Prof. Danso-Boafo was speaking at the funeral of Mr. Kwame Ofosu-Asare, the 17 year old Ghanaian, who was stabbed to death in a random “postcode” killing. He expressed his condolence to the Ofosu-Asare family and said the phenomenon is unfortunate, that is why the High Commission is organising the Youth Forum for Ghanaian parents and the youth to have the opportunity to interact with Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Doctors, Lawyers, Social Workers and other experts on human behaviour to help them handle the youth of today.

The planners of the programme, Prof. Danso-Boafo said, have almost finished their work and very soon, would be advertising the programme in the newspapers and on radio.

“ I appeal to you, the parents to come with your children to listen to these experts and share experiences, at the end of it all we will all benefit from the expertise of the resource persons who will be facilitating the programme”, Prof. Danso-Boafo said.

He said the tragic incident that resulted in the death of Master Kwame Ofosu-Asare has left, not only the Ofosu-Asare family devastated but also the Ghana High Commission.

H. E. the High Commissioner emphasised that it is the responsibility of every parent to ensure that their wards were safe at all times, that is why they must join hands with the High Commission to find a solution to the current carnage taking place in some of London’s streets.

Master Kwame Ofosu Asare was buried last Saturday after a burial service conducted by Rev. Micheal Kendall at the Brownhill Road Baptist Church. Officials of the Ghana High Commission were present at the church service attended by friends, school mates of Master Asare, family and friends. Also present at the funeral were Labour peer Lord Boateng and Lewisham Mayor Sir Steve Bullock and the local MP Heidi Alexander.
