All NPP members to be share-holders of the party; The National Chairman declares.

All members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will soon be classified as share-holders of the party, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, National Chairman of the NPP, declared in Toronto, Canada, at a Town Hall meeting held at the Ghanaian Presbyterian Church.

He explained that every share-holder would contribute one Ghana cedi every month towards the running of the party.

Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey, an astute politician, said arrangements were well advanced with all the mobile telephone companies in Ghana to deduct the money at source, adding that telephone numbers for members to call for their contributions to be collected would be announced in Accra shortly. Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey and two other national officers, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, popularly called “Sir John”, General Secretary of the NPP, and Charles Asuako Owiredu, International Affairs Director, were on a four-day working visit to Canada. Obetsebi-Lamptey told the meeting that the NPP was not as corrupt as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has labeled it that the NPP had set aside large sums of money for its political activities. He urged members and supporters to be proud of what the party stands for and has achieved for Ghana. He appealed to members to minimize the popularity of shared poverty and instead promote a culture whereby many Ghanaians would rejoice in others’ success. Mr. Owusu-Afriyie said “the NPP is focused on taking the fight to the NDC” but needed resources to execute and accomplish the plans of the party. “Sir John”, a former Diasporan, apologized on behalf of the party for the wrongs meted out to external branches of the NPP and assured the people that the new executive would ensure that those wrongs were never repeated. Charles Owiredu, in his contribution, announced that NPP now has 10 recognized external branches including Canada, stressing that four new branches would soon be added. During question and answer period, Obetsebi-Lamptey lashed it out at NDC and said the NDC is great at sensationalism, maligning and lying but woeful in governing. He said the word enemy could be interchanged for opponent but when it comes to the NDC which practices the politics of vindictiveness and witch-hunting, the word enemy takes precedent over opponent.

The meeting, presided over the Toronto chapter Chairman Augustine Opoku-Agyemang, was attended by Nana Duah, Chairman of the Montreal Chapter, and the entire Toronto chapter Executive.

The three national executive members have since left Canada to continue their tour of USA.
