The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms To be translated into Ghanaian Twi language

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the blueprint and foundation of the Canadian Constitution is to be translated into the Ghanaian Twi language. This dramatic move was announced at the 10th Anniversary Celebrations of the Ghanaian-Canadian Community Newspaper, The Ghanaian News Canada on Sunday October 7th, 2007 in Toronto. The Federal Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, Hon Jim Karygianis who announced this historic move noted that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms has already been translated into forty different languages representing some of the cultural an ethnic communities in Canada. The only African language into which the document has been translated so far is Somali and he is eager to see it translated into Twi, which is widely spoken by majority of the members of the Ghanaian-Canadian community.

Dr. Martin La Kumi who chaired the 10th Anniversary Celebrations and The Ghanaian News Editorial and Production Team of Emmanuel Ayiku, Dr. Michael Baffoe, Joe Kingsley Eyiah, Comfort Ayiku and Fred Poku Bonsu accepted the challenge on behalf of the Ghanaian-Canadian Community. They thanked Hon. Karygianis for the honour and promised to ensure that the translation is done before the end of the year 2007.
