Second Conference Of Leaders Of Ghana Unions And
Associations In Barcelona – Spain

The first annual conference was held in Madrid last year 2010.This year second conference of leaders of Ghana unions and Associations has been held in Barcelona 5th February 2011.The conference which started at 6pm was opened with an opening prayers from the Christian and Islamic leaders followed by an introduction of the days chairman.
Present in the conference were H.E Fidelis Woenenyo Yao Ekar the Ghana Ambassador to Spain ,Mr. Jonathan Magnusen who is the Minister/Head of consular Affairs and delegates from various Associations.

H.E the Ghana Ambassador gave his opening remarks,saying the embassy is working with the Spanish government about residents permits and the unemployment,adding that they are more concern and not sitting down with fingers across. H.E used the opportunity to formally inform delegates about the end of service of the minister/head of consular affairs and to say a farewell and good services rendered during his time of office. H.E said ,he always want to listen to problems of citizen that will make communication easier,he also inform the delegates that they had a new big office that has a lavatory facility for citizen who comes to the embassy for consular services. The location of the office is still the same building but have moved from the 10th floor to 3rd. ,the list but not the last remark H.E made was that concerns of Ghanaians was carried out, thus Ghanaians to have a direct flight from Spain,Ghana airways has started flowing from Canary Island,and they have involve other airlines which may start sooner.
Other issues raised by Ghanaians in Spain were the cost of issuing a Ghana passport and other consular charges,which H.E told delegates that those charges are been determined by the parliament of Ghana and the message has been conveyed to parliament and waiting for approval.
A report was made by the out going consular,in his report,he thank H.E and will like to say what the embassy done for the year 2010,and said in Spain Ghanaians represent about 31 thousand and the embassy alone can not work without the Ghanaian associations and there was a need to call upon some Ghanaian associations to witness the presentation of Credential to the King of Spain when the Ambassador came .The consular therefore appeal to various associations to assist and cooperate with the embassy,and he tried by helping associations with a drafted letter to be issued to those who can not come to Madrid to be filled and endorsed and can be sent by post for consular services. The consular emphasized Ghanaians to be networking and be able to form ONE GHANA UNION/ASSOCIATION.
All representative gave a brief on activities carried out last year 2010 and problems encounted. All the representatives gave a great remark to the out going consular for his efforts and good work done. There was a general comments from the floor where by the out going consular had the time to answer some comments and explain them clearly. The venue for the next conference would be communicated.
The conference which took almost 6 hours came to an end with a closing remarks by H.E the Ambassador. He thank all representatives and also said a peace of words to the out going consular,that his good work in Spain will remain as he is going,because he has heard all praises and good work done from the general public. A closing prayer was said by a Christian/Islamic leaders, later refreshments to say farewell to the CONSULAR.
