Okyerema Asante at the Kente Dance in Columbus (OH)

Okyerema Asante, the master drummer from Ghana who is famous for performing all parts of a traditional five-person fontomfrom ensemble by himself, will be the special guest performer at the 2008 Kente Dance in Columbus (OH).

An educator and phenomenal performer in his own right, Okyerema is amongst the world’s finest entertainers. As part of his performance, he attaches percussion instruments to various parts of his body and simultaneously plays drums and many other instruments. With as many as 85 instruments in one performance, his energetic and exciting showmanship continues to set the bar higher and higher for live entertainment in world music.

Okyerema is also known for playing with Paul Simon on his Graceland album, and has toured with world-class acts like Fleetwood Mac. He has a pair of his kotokro drum sticks enshrined in the collections at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Okyerema Asante's solo albums include Ohene Kesee, Crabs in a Bucket, Bringing The Flame Home: From Havana to Africa, and Drum Message. The 2008 Kente Dance is on September 20, 2008 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel on Sinclair Road in Columbus (OH) from 9pm till 4am, and is organized by Talking Drums Productions, a Columbus-based not-for-profit organization focused on cultural awareness and philanthropy.
