This occasion is a result of a meeting held in Worcester in the State of Massachusetts when the Okyeman Association of New England was inaugurated. The occasion was preceded by a meeting of all the chapter leaders from various states to form the Okyeman Council of North America. An interim committee was formed to put together all the necessary formalities to be submitted to the National body.

The standing committee that was entrusted to develop this product (OCONA) has since then worked tirelessly to bring us to this point.

Recognizing the need for a non-profit organization that would engage in fostering the unity of people of AKYEM origin in NORTH AMERICA, the splinter OKYEMAN ASSOCIATIONS within Continental USA AND CANADA came together and embarked on the formation of OCONA. A non-profit organization, OCONA seeks to create a platform for the promotion of debate, ideas, and activities that strengthen the historical bonds that have united people of OKYEMAN origin on the continent of NORTH AMERICA and in the Diaspora through years of political, cultural, and economic struggles. It seeks to provide space for an agenda that promotes and celebrates the efforts of people of AKYEM origin towards self-assertion, human dignity and self-determination. Internationalist in vision, OCONA also seeks to engage in activities that promote understanding among all global AKYEM communities

In attendance will be the Ghana Ambassador to the USA, His Excellency Mr. Daniel Ohene Agyekum; Hon Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa, Mr.Kwabena Amankwaa Asiamah and Dr Kwabena Ohene Frempong.

The standing committee and entire members of the Council is inviting every Okyeniba within the Continent of the USA and Canada to this historic event.
