Obuasi Association Inaugurated in Virginia

Obuasi citizens from all over the United States came together on Saturday May 15, to inaugurate the Virginia Branch of the Obuasi Kroye Kuo. The heavily attended event s was graced with the presence of the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. John Alexander Ackon and Mr. Wilson Sey –Chairman of the Obuasi –Riverside Sister City Relationship.

In his welcome address the Chairman of the association, Nana Badu encouraged the Obuasi citizens to join hands in raising funds to support laudable projects back home and also come together to support each other in their bid to foster unity and healthy relationship. He called on all to attend monthly meetings. In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive gave an overview of revenue generating sources for the District assembly. He went on to give the boundaries of the assembly as being bounded to the east by Adansi South, west by Amansie Central and to the north by Adansi North, to the south by Upper Denkyira District in the Eastern Region. “The District assembly has Obuasi as its Administrative Capital where the famous and rich Obuasi Gold Mines, now Anglo Gold Ashanti is located.”

In his view he said the District Assembly in spite of challenges has made some positive inroads in terms of development in education, sanitation and revenue generation. The highly elated MCE was very happy about the turn out at the event and encouraged the Obuasi citizens to pull resources to support their families back home and contribute to the positive agenda of the District Assembly.

Also present at the ceremony were representative of the Obuasi / Riverside Sister City relationship from Riverside, California, Mr. Robert Airhart and Larry Krepps. They both gave an overview of areas of mutual cooperation established between the cities of Obuasi (Ghana) and Riverside (California). Mr. Roland Azure, the Chief Executive Officer of Trans-Assure Medical Transportation in Virginia who chaired the function said even though he is not from Obuasi he has absolute confidence in the Obuasi citizens he has had the opportunity to work with and expressed confidence in one Frank Mensah his office manager from Obuasi as one of the honest people he has ever come into contact with.

The Abrempong Group, an elite group of Gentlemen based in Virginia were also present to throw their support behind the association by donating bountifully. The occasion happened to be a reunion of families and friends from Obuasi who had not met in years. There was food in abundance, dancing and merry-making.
