NPP Houston Chapter Denies Allegation

NPP-USA (HOUSTON) RUBISHES BASELESS ALLEGATION AGAINST NANA AKUFO-ADDO.

On behalf of the Houston NPP chapter, I will like to issue a statement in clarification to some of the negative accusations brought forward to our attention in an article by Mr. B.B Nkrumah, which appeared on Ghana Web on 2/6/12.

First and foremost I will start by throwing light from organizational standpoint. The author of the said article should have known that to organize such a high profile event comes with many delays emanating from various factors, including security and weather adversity.

On the day of the event If Mr. Nkrumah will be very truthful to testify, it rained the whole day in Houston but we were able to accomplish all the necessary preparation prior to the main event. When the actual Town Hall Meeting got underway, we kept the early arrivals posted by informing them the approximate time Nana Akufo-Addo will arrive. The event planners advertised the time for the event, which was different from Nana’s arrival. Therefore the lateness of the program cannot be attributed to Nana Akufo-Addo.

Also, Mr. B.B Nkrumah did mention that the organizers were having problem with their electronics. Highly smart people will never sight electronic problem in any event as an issue because of some of the troubles one may encounter in regards to electronics. When Nana walked in, the whole room got up on its feet and he did shake hands with people on his way to his seat. Nana started his speech by first apologizing for the late start of the event, and if Mr. B.B Nkrumah was listening he clearly stated that he hates to be late but he has a hectic schedule within this short visit. This is recorded and we can produce the audio recording to prove it.

The Houston Chapter of NPP-USA strongly condemns Mr. B.B Nkrumah’s characterization of Nana Akufo-Addo as “arrogant” to be childish, despicable and in poor taste as Nana Akufo- Addo never exhibited any gestures that warrant him to be branded as such.

Dear readers, would you call a presidential candidate who came into a city with an outlined busy itinerary but when told about a sudden death of a community member’s wife by the name of Gladys Hagan who died shortly after arriving in this country for the first time, he changed his very tight schedule and attended the funeral arrogant? This singular gesture has demonstrated the true character trait of Nana Akufo-Addo as a very caring and sensitive man, contrary to the NDC “rented press” futile attempts to project him otherwise. This is what many Ghanaians are seeing as the true Nana Akufo-Addo in his listening tours and those of us in Houston are grateful to see that side of him during his short visit.

It is pathetic that one would attempt to give a negative twist to Nana Akufo-Addo’s speech in Houston that clearly depicts what Ghana is about and what Ghanaians in the Diaspora wanted out from a presidential figure. Evidently, if what we saw in Nana Akufo-Addo is arrogance then as Ghanaian youth we prefer arrogance in a leader to the leadership paralysis and gargantuan incompetence that Ghana is currently experiencing in Governance. These accusations from Mr. BB Nkrumah are clear evidence of a false propaganda that is fabricated to take away the success part of an event. The NPP Houston chapter will therefore not waste time on such false and planted accusations from such individuals who have zero knowledge about politics and complaining from abysmal ignorance. .

I would like to seize this opportunity to thank all community leaders and respected citizens of Ghana who made this Town Hall Meeting a success. Our only advice to our dear fellow citizen Mr. BB Nkrumah is that he should really be very factual when arguing and never publish such baseless articles.
