NPP Chicago Condems Ken Agyepong’s Arrest

The NPP Chicago chapter condemns in no uncertain terms the arrest of Hon.Kennedy Agyepong, MP for Assin North by the Ghana Police Force.

With the recent spate of attacks and brutalities meted out to NPP supporters, activists and party officials, and the abject disregard of the Ghana police and law enforcement agents to bring the perpetrators to justice, it is not surprising that every law abiding citizen will think we live in a lawless society, hence if the honorable MP of parliament has spoken, one should look carefully at the root causes, before laying hands on Ken Agyepong.

Nii Lamptey Vanderpuije and his goons have vowed with their blood to fight to win their constituency whilst harassing, beating and intimidating members of the NPP, all these and other calculated atrocities have gone on right under the full glare of the Ghana Police Service and law agents who suddenly at the break of dawn decided to arrest the “frustrated MP “over a non treasonable statement.

Compared to the statements by members of the NDC and their actions, it is nothing but pure anger and frustration on the part of any law abiding citizen who yearns to see equality, fairness and justice in our democratic enterprise to render such statements. In the movie, “ Law Abiding citizen” that starred Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, when the system failed him, (Clyde Shelton), all he had to do was act up to protect his constitutional rights. If Ghana is emulating democracy and rule of law, then let fairness and equality be central in our dealings because no one is above the law, after all‘ Freedom and Justice “ is our motto.

Free Kennedy Agyepong, free him now, and let the law work!

When Ursula Owusu and Jinapor were beaten, the police watched with nonchalance, if NDC pundits and their supporters believe they are on the right track of governance and have represented the will of the electorate in the provision of peace and economic development since they came into office, then they need not fear the outcome of the 2012 elections.

Let it be known that no amount of intimidation, nor scare tactics, brutalities or arrests can stop the spirit of the Ghanaian once he or she is fed up. In the words of Robert Frost “ never be bullied into silence” the NDC, backed by the Ghana Police Force and their allies cannot and will never be able to suppress nor oppress the will of the African Child, “ we no go sit down make them cheat us every day” I hope all Ghanaians remember that phrase, if we wrestled independence from the embrace of the Brits in 1957, let it be known to all and sundry that , come December 7th 2012, the verdict will be pronounced, no amount of rigging nor electoral malpractices will stop the votes of the masses.

Free Kennedy Agyepong and bring to justice those who threw the first stone, instill some discipline in our uniformed men and women and let the entire world know that Ghana is not another cote D’Ivoire or Mali, we’ve come a long way. Those who live by the sword, die by the sword. We call on all the lenses of the international media, international watch dogs and electoral observers to turn their cameras towards mother Ghana and stave off these shenanigans by the NDC and their pundits.

We in the NPP are not cowards, nor is it the lack of strength that we possess, but we respect the rule of law, where no one is above law, let this mantra that characterized our exodus from military adventurism in our political voyage once again, be reenacted.
