NDC Europe Throws Support Behind Prof Mills Govt

NDC Europe Delegates and members of the Switzerland Branch of the Party at a meeting with Prof Mills in Zurich, Switzerland threw their support behind Prof Mills Govt to see through his “Better Ghana Agenda”.

The Delegates led by Mr Albert Adzayi, NDC Europe Interim Chairman and Chairman of the Switzerland Branch had over an hour of open frank discussions with President Mills on a number of issues ranging from challenges within the NDC Party, progress on the “Better Ghana Agenda”, fair and equitable Dual-Nationality Legislation for Ghanaians residents abroad and emerging social issues of concern.

On a number of issues facing the Party, Mr Chris Addy-Nayo a member of NDC Europe Coordinating Executive raised concerns about the effects of raging conflicts in the Party, on his “Better Ghana Agenda” and the prospects of such conflicts on the Democratic and Governance agenda in the country. But Prof Mills responded saying that strong institutions evolve from challenges and assured the Executives and all NDC Members that NDC will overcome any present or future difficulty to deliver the “Better Ghana Agenda” to Ghanaians. He encouraged all to throw their support behind the Party.

On the issue of Dual-Nationality for Ghanaians, President Mills stated that the current Legislation needs to be reviewed in the light of changing circumstances and that he will rely on Ghanaians who are affected negatively by the existing Legislation to submit recommendations to the Govt and Parliament as to how the Laws can be changed to make it fair and equitable to all Ghanaians with dual-nationality.

The President also encouraged Ghanaians abroad to facilitate investments into the country and that his Govt will compliment such investments with the necessary support. However he cautioned that Ghana will only welcome genuine investments and that over the past months they’ve seen a number of proposed investments which are suspicious and least dubious and that such proposals will not be tolerated by the country. He also emphasised that the Govt will continue to seek and utilise the skills of Ghanaians abroad in support of the economic and social development of the country.

In response to a question on the sexual abuse of children in schools by persons in authority he responded that the Law will be brought to bear on individuals found to have committed such offenses and that Govt Policy and Legislation is currently being reviewed to protect the Rights of Ghanaian children from Sexual and other abuses.

The Executives in response reiterated their confidence in his leadership and pledged their support to his Government in fulfilment of the “Better Ghana Agenda”.

Present at the meeting with NDC Europe Interim Executives were the Foreign Minister, Hon Muhammad Mumuni; Minister of Information, Hon. John Tia; Minister of Trade, Ms Hannah Tetteh and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr Kobby Acheampong.
