NDC Canada Chapter Holds Victory Celebrations In Montreal

NDC Canada Chapter held a scintillating Victory Celebration in Montreal on Saturday February 14, 2009. The event, dubbed as a “Democratic and Electoral Victory Celebration”, was held at 9555 Goin Boulevard Pierrefonds, Montreal, Quebec. It was attended by members of the Ghanaian Community and a large delegation from the African and Caribbean Communities in Montreal. The Dinner-Dance also featured a large variety of African dishes and music.

The Chairman of NDC Canada Chapter, Mr. Kofi Sordzi, who was sworn in as Chairman in 2007 by NDC executives from Accra pointed out in his opening remarks that the Party’s victory in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December marked a great watershed in the history of Ghana. He remarked that the December electoral victory stabilized real democracy in Ghana and attributed this victory to the dynamic leadership of the Leader of the party Flt. Lt. J. J. Rawlings and the President Prof. Evans John Atta Mills.

“We have gathered here tonight to celebrate NDC victory and a happy valentine. NDC members are law abiding citizens who respect both Canadian and Ghanaian laws and above all faithful to the Constitution of the party” he said.

In his message to the gathering, the General Secretary of NDC Canada Chapter, Mr. Frederick Tay encouraged all party sympathizers who are still sitting on the fence to join the party. He advised all present to desist from labeling party politics as a “dirty game” because through party politics, democracy and rule of law would be strengthened in Ghana. He expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Montreal Branch for inviting the Toronto Branch to participate in the victory celebrations.

The Chairman of the Toronto Branch of the NDC, Mr. Enoch Nartey led a five-man delegation comprising Executive members from the Toronto Branch of the Party to the celebrations. These were General Secretary Mr. Frederick Tay, Organizer Mr. Edmund Gbede, Youth Organizer Mr. Nii Odoi Yemoh, and Deputy Secretary Mr. Reginald Kotey.

The Chairman of the Montreal Branch, Mr. Ken Asafo-Adjei in his speech admonished all Ghanaians to support the good work of the government to enable it provide better life for all Ghanaians both at home and abroad. He appealed to Ghanaians in Canada especially those living in Montreal to register with the Branch so that together they could all work hard to assist the development efforts going on in Ghana.

The Chairman of NDC Canada, Mr. Kofi Sordzi wishes to inform all members and the general public that henceforth all publications on the Ghana web relating to the party in Canada shall be signed ONLY by the Chairman. The Chairman also wishes to inform all NDC members in Canada that elections would be held this year to elect new executives for the Chapter. He said members would soon be contacted about the modalities for the election.
