High Commissioner inaugurates Ghana Union of Wales

Cardiff, Feb. 16, GNA - Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, Mr Annan Cato on Thursday called on Ghanaians to have faith and confidence in their country.

"Ghana's achievements and enormous progress since her independence are evident in her socio-economic developments," he said at a meeting in Cardiff, Wales, to celebrate the birth of Ghana Union of Wales. Mr Cato said Ghana had a place of honour for her role and immense contributions to the total liberation of Africa and all the black communities in the world.

"Ghana is an inspiration to all black communities, from Africa, to America, to the Caribbean and to all those in the Diaspora," he said. Mr Cato said Ghana High Commission was considering establishing a consulate in Cardiff to protect the interest of Ghanaians in Wales and to see to the provision of passports and visa applications. However, Mr. Cato cautioned, this would depend on the growth of Ghanaian community in Wales and advised members of the union to register to increase their numbers.

In a welcoming address, Nana Frankie Asare-Donkoh, President of the Union, thanked Mr Cato for visiting the Ghanaian community in Wales and to listen to their grievances.

Nana Asare-Donkoh said the aim of the union was to protect the interest and well-being of the community and to promote togetherness with the Welsh people and other ethnic minority communities.
