Ghanaians to showcase Cultural Heritage in the Bronx

The long awaited event is almost here as the first ever Ghana Day Parade will be taking place in the Bronx of New York City on Sunday August 16, 2009, in Crotona Park in the Bronx.

Since the dawn of Ghana's 50th anniversary, a resounding rhythm had been beating that resonated in the hearts of Ghanaians in the United States. There was a call to organize and showcase the rich and diverse Ghanaian culture. However, the task seemed too daunting, or few had the time and energy to pursue it. A group of 9 young and dynamic Ghanaian professionals decided to join together and take on this daunting task. Some didn’t know one another, but it was the passion and patriotism for their motherland that bound them. Some were not born in Ghana, yet felt obligated to see this through.

They formed an organization known as The Ghana Parade Council (GPC) and joined ranks with The National Council of Ghanaian Associations (NCOGA) to make an unprecedented event. This event as described by the GPC will set the foundation for Ghanaians far and near to express their cultural pride and contributions to New York City, especially in the Bronx, which has the largest population of Ghanaians in the United States.

GPC envisions this event to serve in many capacities that will, nurture and inspire Ghanaians far and near in their continuance of cultural expression as well bring awareness to the Ghanaian good-will service and contribution in the US, particularly in New York City. We're grateful to see the stages of the vision coming to fruition.

GPC is asking all Ghanaians near and far to join ranks with them to make this a successful event. Bring your Ghana flags, wear your traditional clothes, and more importantly, come out that day to Crotona Park in the Bronx to show your pride and celebrate our culture.

Please visit: http://www.GhanaParadeCouncil.org to donate or sponsor towards this historic event. If you would like to participate, please also visit their site for details. GPC will also have a booth at this year’s NCOGA Picnic on Saturday August 1, 2009 at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York, to answer questions and sign up volunteers as well as participants.
