Ghaianan illegals busted in Taiwan nightclub

Twelve Africans, including Ghanaians, were arrested last Sunday in downtown Taipei after overstaying their visas and having been allegedly involved in criminal activity, according to a news release issued yesterday by the National Immigration Agency (NIA).

NIA inspectors and Taipei City police raided a night club in Zhongshan District on Sept. 2 after the agency was informed by Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Chen Chao-rung of a group of Africans illegally staying in Taiwan who gathered at the night club each weekend.

Chen claimed the Africans had swindled many local females after developing relations with them, and said some of the victims were "extremely grieved" after being cheated, the news release said.

Acting on the tip, NIA inspectors and police seized 12 citizens from Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone, who had all overstayed their visas, the news release said, noting that they were now detained and the NIA was probing whether they were involved in criminal activity.

They will be deported after the NIA confirms their identities, and whether they have committed any crimes in Taiwan, the news release said.
