Dignitaries and Top Class Musicians Arrive In Chicago for Ghanafest.

The keynote speaker of Ghanafest 2008, Honorable Samson K. Boafo, Minister of Chieftaincy and Culture just arrived in Chicago for the 20 th annual Ghanaian Cultural Festival celebrations. Mr. Boafo arrived at 9:25 A.M from Ghana via New York. He was met on arrival at the O'Hare Airport by officials of the Ghana National Council led by the President, John Henry Assabill.

Also in Chicago to attend the festival is Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, leader and flagbearer of the Convention Peoples Party, CPP. Mr. Nduom was met on arrival by a large group of Ghanaians led by the U.S.A based Ghanaian political pressure Group, Citizens for better Ghana, CPP enthusiasts, members of the Ghanaian Community and Reverend Dr. Herbert B. Martin. Reverend Martin heads one of the largest African American Churches here in Chicago. Chicago's own, Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama, presidential candidate and Flagbearer of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) is also in Chicago to celebrate Ghanafest with his friends and family.

Meanwhile organizers of the talent laden BlackRock Concert, has just informed Ghana Home Page that MzBel is in Chicago for the much publicized event scheduled to take place at the historic Congress Theater, 2135 N. Milwaukee Avenue from 9 P.M on Saturday.

Reggie Rockstone, Tic Tac and VIP also arrived today to set the Ghanafest grounds and the Congress Theater ablaze! Ghana Fest is held annually on the last Saturday of July in Washington Park. This year, the festival is scheduled to come off tomorrow from 11 A.M to 10 P.M. For the past 20 years Ghanafest has entertained and educated thousands of patrons. Often the after- parties are filled with a growing crowd of dedicated patrons who just can't get enough of the Festival.

This year BlackRock will kick it up a notch, giving the crowd what they want and creating a brilliant line-up of some of the world's best musicians and DJ's spinning everything from hip hop, to reggae while combining the sounds of hip-life and high-life genres .

A Ghanaian native, Mr.Stephen Asare of Public Radio Station, PBS, in Chicago reports that this year's Ghanafest will be huge! He made this observation to the host of the early Morning show on the Moody Broadcasting Network, Mr. Mike Elfstrand. After playing the Ghanaian National Anthem, Mike introduced Stephen to his listeners. Stephen informed the host and his audience that Ghanafest is the largest Ghanaian Cultural exposition in the Diaspora and that the festival gives opportunity for Ghanaians abroad to mingle and meet old friends. Stephen claims that he has visited Ghanafest for the past 4 years. He intends to cover a special report on Ghanafest 2008 for the PBS and the Moody Broadcasting network.

Members of the community driving to the festival are advised that parking at this year’s Ghanafest grounds will be opened only to attendees of the festival. The 'code word' at the entrance is”I AM ATTENDING GHANAFEST". The weather over the "African Village" at the Washington Park in Chicago is forecasted to be very good; temperatures will range 67-95 degrees Fahrenheit. Patrons and other attendees are advised to drink a lot of fluids and refrain from alcoholic beverages under the predicted simmering heat wave.
