Can NPP North America Branch Be Managed

The NPP North America Branch has their congress last Saturday, 23 September 2006 to elect new executives. It was the most backstabbing, fraudulent and unorganized election I have ever observed. As a strong member for an opposition party, CPP, I was allowed to attend the so called delegate congress. Any person who can afford to pay $50.00 entrance fee was allowed to enter the hall. After lunch, the doors were open-to-all. The congress was the most segregated event.

When I got to the congress, I noticed one woman who was always trying to calm members down and defending the outgoing chairman, Mohammed Idris. At first I thought she was running for a position.

Then came to time to vote to elect new executives. Instead of NPP members only to vote, as an opposition member, I was allowed to take part of the voting. It was open-to-all vote; no lines were drawn for members and non-members.

During that period, I realized that the hosting (Washington, DC) chapter had planned to fill the positions with their members. Apparently they hand picked their members to fill most of the positions. What unfair election?

A delegate from outside Washington, DC on complaining about the election so I asked why he did not apply for position. He mentioned that he submitted his application weeks before the congress but the Washington, DC chapter or whoever was responsibly did not include his application. Not only this guy but other delegates were complaining about the unfair election.

I found out that the woman who was always trying to calm members and defending Mohammed, name is Ms. Esther. I asked one why she did not run for any position. Mr. Owusu mentioned that Esther does not have education to qualify her for any position in the party.

“She is only there to help set things up”.

No education, No position. With education, she would have been a better candidate than any of the chosen candidates. She did a great job helping, calming delegates down and defending Mr. Idris.

I noticed that all the elected members were all Akans. Maybe not only she does not have education, she may not be an Akan, like her boss Mr. Idris. I wonder!
