American Professor donates books to KNUST

Kumasi, Oct 1, GNA - A visiting United States academic, Professor Mariama Ross, at the weekend presented over 1,000 books worth 30,000 dollars to the General Arts Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The books included professional journals, art education books, African-American culture and other textbooks.

Prof Ross said she and her friends acquired the books. She said she had been visiting the KNUST for the past 11 years to lecture and decided to settle in the country due to the prevailing peace and hospitality of the people.

Prof Ross said one of the problems facing lecturers in the country was the inability to publish books and that she would organize workshops for all lecturers of the university to assist them to write and publish their own books.

Prof Dr. Dr. Daniel Bour, Provost of the College of Arts and Social Science of KNUST who received the books, commended the donor and expressed the hope that the students would make judicious use of them to facilitate teaching and learning.

He appealed to individuals, churches and organizations to contribute generously either in cash or kind towards the government's effort to promote education.
