Akyem Abenase Association – North America Chapter

A preliminary meeting was held in the Bronx, New York on August 10, 2008 to set the stage for the formation of the North American Chapter of Akyem Abenase Association. The meeting was hosted by Brother Charles Appiah-Yeboah at his residence. In attendance were the core founding members namely Dr. Charles K. Oppong from Pennsylvania, Mr. Kwabena Ampofo-Asiedu from Wisconsin, Madam Abenaa Ampofoa, Mr. George Bosompen, Madam Akua Oparebea and Mr. Oppiah all from the Bronx, New York. Some of the core members who were unable to attend the maiden meeting due to prior commitments were Mr. Emmanuel Korankye from Atlanta, Sister Mavis, Mr. Eric Owusu, Madam Edith Owusu, Sister Lydia, Eric Appiah, Paulina Appiah and Madam Mercy Appiah all from New York city.

The founding members set forth broad objectives to be ratified in their next meting to be scheduled by the end of the year. Dr. Oppong nominated Mr. Charles Appiah-Yeboah to be the Chairman of the new association. His nomination was unanimously approved by members and he accepted the chairmanship without any reservations. Dr. Oppong was nominated and he accepted the post of Organizing/Financial Secretary whiles Mr. Ampofo-Asiedu was bestowed the position of General Secretary.

Among other things the association intends to embark upon some development projects to help the people of the village and to help restore its past glory as the gateway to Akyem Kotoku. The Chairman appealed to all sons and daughters of the great village of Abenase in the Diaspora to come together and join forces to forge ahead with this noble cause. He noted that any ideas that one can come up with that will help foster peace and tranquility for the general development of the area will be greatly appreciated.
