GEPA to organise training for exporters

The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC) would on Monday, January 14, 2013 organise a weeklong capacity-building workshop for Ghanaian exporters on reliable trade information on markets.

The workshop which would be based on “Researching and Analysing Export Markets” would enable the participating trade support institutions and exporting companies, to identify key characteristics of identified target markets in order to build a value proposition and to position themselves for identified exported products.

Mr Emmanuel Quao, Principal Export Development Officer at GEPA who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, added that the “ITC resource persons will tutor the participants on how to run a desk research using 'the 9Ps' market research technique and relevant online trade information sources”.

The nine “P’s” include “Panorama, People, Product, Permission, Packaging, Placement, Price, Promotion and Prospects”.

Mr Quao said the workshop was the second phase to a training session organized by both GEPA and ITC during the latter part of 2012.

He said products and target markets for the first session included cassava for the United States, cocoa butter for Netherlands, palm oil for Germany, pineapple for United Kingdom and textiles for Germany.

He described the first session as a huge success, adding that the participants expressed their appreciation for their upgraded knowledge on issues related to their operations.

Mr Quao said he was optimistic that the upcoming training sessions would deepen participants’ understanding and appreciation on reliable trade information for their targeted markets.
