Prekese, fruit juice now out

Bolgatanga, Dec 23, GNA - On day two of the mini fair and exhibition organised in Bolgatanga by the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), one of the stands that has attracted public interest is the Natu-Bi Preserve Establishment, a fruit juice canning company based at Wenchi in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The company specialises in the production of fruit drinks using locally grown fruit species that have received little attention from the Ghanaian populace.

It displayed soft drinks made from the Prekese fruit (Tetrapleura Tetraptera), cashew fruits and nuts, and a mixture of variety of fruit juices labelled "cocktail juice".

The manager in-charge of the stand, Mr. Nuama Twum, said the prekese and cashew drinks also serve as medicinal drinks, especially for the cure of hypertension.

He said the Food and Drugs Board has certified the product, while plans are advanced to send samples of the products to the Mampong Research Institute for examination.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Manager for the NBSSI, Mr Sam Bansa, said the products have already penetrated the export market, especially in London and that his outfit has been instrumental in the success story of the Natu-Bi Preserve Establishment.
