Authorities at the Offinso North District Assembly in the Ashanti Region are eyeing two factories from the government's flagship One-District-One- Factory programme – a tomato factory and cashew-processing factory – to deal with post-harvest losses in that food-growing enclave.

According to District Chief Executive D.K. Asare Boakye, the district will in the next 10 years become Ghana's biggest grower of cashew due to inroads already made under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme by cultivating close to 30,000 acres of farmlands with seedlings.

He made this known on Saturday May 27 when the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, met him and the executives of the Offinso North constituency at Nkenkaansu on the fourth day of his region-wide tour.

Though government has billed each district in the country for the siting of one factory to boost trade, industry and employment, Mr Asare Boakye believes his district shall have two due to its enormous potentials in tomato and cashew.

Hon Asare Boakye, who until his appointment as the DCE was the Offinso North Constituency Chairman of the NPP, pledged his unflinching support for the second term bid of Chairman Wontumi.

He said the charismatic and vibrant nature of the incumbent regional chairman is an asset every political party must protect and that no other person should dare contest him or they lose miserably.

Though Bernard Antwi Boasiako has not publicly declared his intention to contest for a second term, he welcomed the DCE's endorsement with smiles and applause.
