Mobile Web Ghana holds 2011 award for entrepreneurs

Accra, May 17, GNA - Mobile Web Ghana, a community of mobile entrepreneurs, has held its first award ceremony that saw 30 young Ghanaian IT savvy undergoing an intensive three weeks mobile web training.

A statement signed by the Ms Florence Toffa, Project Manager, Mobile Web Ghana, and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, said ten projects were undertaken after for a jury to decide on two winners.

The first prize went to project 96=91Music Request Service' by Alfred Anyan, Gerald Abraham and Martin Zonyrah and the second project 'Mobitix' by David Agbenyega.

Music Request Service is a mobile service designed to provide an easy and cheap means for people to request and share their favourite songs using their mobile phones. Whilst Mobitix is a mobile application that allows mobile users to buy tickets and event organizers to issue tickets, monitor their sale and validate them.

For their prizes 91Music Request Service' received GH¢10,000 and Mobitix GH¢5,000. Vodafone Ghana sponsored the prizes.

The panel of judge were John Totoe of Mobile Content, Nii Quaynor of AFNOG, Mark Davies of Busy Internet and Nana Manu of Vodafone Ghana.

According to Ms Toffa the prize money would be used to create businesses based on the winning projects.

She said as the second year of our mobile entrepreneurship project starts 93we will be following those projects (including those that didn't win', providing further business mentorship, helping accessing capital and providing media exposure."
