GCAA gets new boss

Government has appointed Mr. Simon Allotey as the new Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) B&FT sources have said.

Mr. Allotey, who is currently the country’s representative on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council, is expected to take office in the coming weeks.

He takes over from Air Commodore (rtd.) Kwame Mamphey, who retired last year to go into private practice.

The Authority, following the resignation of Commodore Mamphey, was led by Mr. Abdullai Alhassan as the acting DG.

Mr. Alhassan, according to our sources, have been confirmed as the substantive Deputy Director-General, Finance and Administration of the GCAA.

Mr. Martey B. Atoklo, has also been endorsed as the Deputy Director-General Technical of the Authority.

Acting Managing Director of the state-owned Ghana Airports Company Limited, Mr. Charles Asare, has also been confirmed as the substantive Managing Director of the company, having acted in that capacity since September 2013.

He takes over from Mrs. Doreen Owusu-Fianko, under whose tenure a new apron that can accommodate up to eight wide-bodied aircraft at the Kotoka International Airport was constructed and other developmental projects in the regional airports began.
