CIPS and GIPS to hold lecture on procurement and supply

The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) and the Ghana Institute of Procurement and Supply (GIPS) are organizing a public lecture and a panel discussion, under the theme: “ Industrialization, procurement and Ghana’s long term socio-economic development”, on the 2nd of August, 2016 at the National Theatre in Accra.

Policy makers are of the view that industrialization will help Ghana and the rest of the continent to achieve high growth rates, boost employment, diversify economies and reduce exposure to external disparities.

However, industrialization can only occur in an enabling environment that includes, attitudinal changes in consumer behavior, investment into infrastructure and regional co-operation.

It is with this in mind that the CIPS and GIPS in collaboration with Joy FM is launching a series of public seminars this year that will discuss the challenges and opportunities around industrialization in Africa.

The main speaker for the lecture is an International Chartered director and Adjunct academic, Professor Douglas Boateng with the Trade and Industry Minister, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah being the Special Guest of Honour.

Some of the points to be discussed include the following:

• Industrialization, procurement and socio-economic development: the inextricable link
• Key driver and reasons for slow progress in industrialization
• The link between the NDPC vision, procurement and industrialization in Ghana
• Africa’s impact on Ghana and regional industrialization and the need for the redefinition of local procurement.
