Big GCB, EIC gains sustain Accra bourse rise

Big gains by Enterprise Insurance Company (EIC) and Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) on Wednesday pushed up the main index of the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) although trading continued to be poor.

The index closed up 7.72 points at 1,461.39 points from 1,453.67.

Traded shares went up to 91,900 shares from 35,700 shares, but moist equities remained dry with only 11 trading shares on the day.

EIC led six gainers with 150 cedis at 4,850 cedis followed by GCB who gained 101 cedis to 4,001 cedis.Ghana Breweries Limited (GBL) was 10 cedis richer 520 cedis, Unilever (UNIL) rose by two cedis at 4,8973 cedis Cocoa

Processing Company which was listed on Friday rose by one cedi at 626 cedis and Mechanical Lloyd Limited also gained one cedi at 273 cedis.

Market capitalisation went up to 7,003.98 billion cedis from 6,446.83 billion cedis.

The change for the year went up to 4.24 per cent from 4.18 per cent.
