GBA President Tasks Committee Members

Peter Zwenne, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has cautioned members of the various committees serving under the new Executive to be responsible as the task they are about to engage is onerous and expects them to work very hard to promote boxing in Ghana.

Speaking at the swearing in of the 12 GBA Committees and Commissions, he said the aim of his administration is to take Ghana Boxing to a higher level in all aspects of the sport and those who have been given positions must support the cause to yield fruitful results in terms of producing new real world champions and the construction of facilities to develop the game.

He noted that only one person cannot do the work and the experience of the knowledgeable people would be tapped to make the nation the envy of the world again.

Lawyer Peter Zwennes congratulated the members of the Committees after they had sworn the oath of office under the leadership of Mr. Erasmus Adorkor, Chief Sports Development Officer, who deputized for Madam Alice Attipoe, the Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

Erasmus Adorkor said he was delighted for the Committees to be set up at the right time, as it had never happened in so many years. He was happy that the present executives want to do things right and on time.

He also adviced the new Committee members to be responsible and be up to the task ahead to push the GBA forward, and to better places.

Erasmus Adorkor hinted that the president who was vice president under Lawyer Moses Foe Amoaning has a lot of experience and has what it takes to succeed.

Felix Quartey, a member of the Committees, who spoke on behalf of those sworn in promised to put Ghana Boxing where it belongs and pledged to support the executive.

Brigadier General (rtd) I.B.Quartey on behalf of the patrons also committed himself and the members to stand firm behind the executive to promote and develop boxing.

The 12 Committees represented include Promotions, Ratings, Medical Commission, Finance, Technical, Legal, Appeals and Counsel of Patrons.

Others are Media / Public Relations, Welfare, Disciplinary and Arbitration, Marketing and Sponsorship.

Naa Darkua Dodoo, the new Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the GBA promised to have a very cordial and fruitful relation with the press and the boxing public. She said plans are in the pipe line to organize seminars for coaches, managers, promoters, new boxing referees and the media.

She urged boxing fans to comport themselves at boxing bouts and praised the Bukom fans for their recent displays which has resulted in no major incidence. The new PRO congratulated the security officers who had in recent times protected the fans and the game.
