Accra, May 14, GNA - Joseph Agbeko, Ghana's world rated bantamweight boxer has called for prayers from his fans and the entire Ghanaian boxing public ahead of his World Boxing Association (WBA) International bantamweight title fight scheduled for Germany on Tuesday, May 18.
In a telephone conversation from his London base on Friday, the undefeated Ghanaian who is referred to by his fans as "King Kong" said he had done everything in the gym in readiness for the fight against Wladimir Sidorenko and all that remained was divine guidance to execute his plans in the ring.
He said his opponent who is a Ukrainian by birth but fights as a German has an intimidating record but that would only tickle him to be extra determined and game on Tuesday to give Ghana a world title. Agbeko said he would depart London on Sunday for Ludeck in Germany, venue of the fight and complete his mental work towards the fight, as he had completed a rigorous training schedule at the Peacock Boxing Gym in East London.
"I have worked very, very hard for this fight, doing five rounds of sparring each with two Ugandan boxers and a tough Nigerian featherweight and the rest of the work is mental.
"I have to focus on this fight and implement my plans in the ring so that I can overcome my opponent and I hope with prayers from all Ghanaians I shall come home victorious."
Agbeko who was a former world bantamweight champion of the defunct World Boxing Federation (WBF) said he had starved long enough and would not let the opportunity to become a champion slip through his hands. He assured Mr Tommy Okine his local manager who is the chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Accra Hearts of Oak of his continued loyalty and implored Hearts players to work hard in order to reach the money zone in this year's African Champions League and eventually win the title.
