Mr Ghana mad over retirement

Kofi Salia aka Asaase is angry, following his disqualification from this year’s Man Ghana contest scheduled for October 13 in Accra.

The three-time winner of the body-building contest believes the move by the Association to stop him from contesting is a calculated attempt to stifle his progress in the sport.

The super heavyweight reigning champion said there is no rule that bars contestants who have won the competition on three occasions.

He therefore threatened to put his grievances on paper and channel it to the appropriate quarters for redress.

“There is no rule which states that when a participant wins a competition for three times, he is disqualified. For me, I believe as long as I am fit, nothing should prevent me from participating in any event,” he said on Happy FM.

He accused the Association of financial misappropriation, saying, “They don’t give us any money at the end of shows. Is that how to organize competitions? You will bear witness with me that In the 90s, Dallas and co received attractive prizes for their efforts after competitions.

“When the National Sports Authority give the Association money, they share it among themselves, I don’t understand what is going on. Why should they retire me because I have won the competition three times? I have purposed to place injunction on the forthcoming show,” he added.

Association president Abdul-Hayye Yartey on the other hand stated that it is stipulated in the Association’s constitution that any person who wins the competition on three occasions would be barred from competing in subsequent editions.

“Kofi is aware of this development, so I am surprised about his pronouncements. We read it aloud when we last staged the competition in Kumasi that any person who wins the competition three times is automatically disqualified.

“What we planned for Kofi was to prepare him for the ‘Pro Card’ and later prepare him to undertake international events. He would be in the competition all the same but on a non-scoring basis. I know what is going on, it is just sheer jealousy,” said Yartey.
