Kumasi, July 8, GNA - Mfantsipim Senior High School (SHS) on Wednesday put up a spirited performance to account for Sunyani SHS 45-30 in their final Basketball preliminary match of the 20th edition of the Milo Schools' Sports Festival played at the Kumasi Polytechnic grounds. By the feat, Mfantsipim have made it to the semi-finals of the Boys' Division of the Basketball category of the Festival alongside Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), St. Peter's SHS and Ghana SHS.

They are due to meet GSTS whilst St. Peter's would pitch their strength against Ghana SHS in the semi-finals scheduled for the weekend. En route to the semi-finals, Mfantsipim beat Keta SHS 62-40 whilst GSTS whipped Kanton SHS 53-5, with St. Peter's beating Navrongo SHS 41-39 and Ghana SHS accounting for St. Thomas Aquinas SHS 41-39.

Mr Iddrisu Gamel, Basketball Coordinator of the Festival in an interview with the GNA Sports, commended Nestle Ghana Limited, sponsors of the event for adding Basketball in this year's Sports Festival. He said organized basketball, especially at the grassroots had become very important in Ghana's pursuit to develop lesser known sports to an appreciable standard.

Mr Gamel said it is gratifying that Nestle has intentions of spreading their net wider to cover female basketball competitions in future as a way of unearthing potential future stars for the nation and therefore urged other corporate bodies to be supportive of lesser known sporting disciplines to benefit the nation.

The Basketball Coordinator said the event saw 12 Senior High Schools participating with the schools grouped into four Zones and expressed the hope that the participants would abide by the rules and regulations of the Festival to enhance its success.
