Tamale (Northern Region) 28 Oct. '98
Dr. Agana Nsiire, Tamale Municipal Director of Health Services, yesterday urged members of the Tamale Municipal Assembly to ensure that this year's polio and vitamin "A" supplement imunisation exercise covers all eligible children within their electoral areas. He said the previous exercise fell short of its target of 90 per cent because some assembly members demanded ''some form of remuneration before helping in the exercise''. Dr Nsiire was briefing a meeting of assembly members, representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGO) and the Ghana Education Service on the time table for this year's polio and vitamin "A" supplement immunisation programme, which takes off nation-wide on November seven and December 19. He said although the three Northern regions were the first to embark on vitamin "A:" supplement immunisation, there is still a high incidence of sicknesses like malaria and pneumonia among children. Dr Nsiire asked them to assist the Ministry of Health in disseminating information on vitamin "A" supplement and to get all parents in their electoral areas to send their children for immunisation.
